Can You Use Eyeshadow to Contour?
There are a lot of different opinions about this subject out there on the internet and many of those opinions are conflicting. The truth is, it’s perfectly safe to use eyeshadow on your face and, in turn, to use eyeshadow to contour your face. The pigments in eyeshadow make it ideal for contouring your face. I mean, if you think about it, you already use it to contour your eyes!
Here are our tips for using eyeshadow to contour:
- Use a lighter eyeshadow on the high spots of your face to highlight these features
- Use an eyeshadow that’s 1-2 shades darker than your natural skin tone to contour those areas
- You can use shimmery shades to highlight, but use a matte shade for the darker, contoured area.
Actually, a lot of professional makeup artists choose to use eyeshadow shades to highlight and contour their client’s faces. This allows them to personalize the tone to the client instead of using the preselected, generic colors in the traditional contour palette. Try it out and let us know in the comments if it’s something you will add to your beauty routine 🙂
